Alien Within

Neurologically and psychiatrically I am not like others, and I’ve known that from a very young age. Living with the disorders I have has undoubtedly been difficult, alienating, and isolating. I have always felt a degree of separation from others, like a non-human entity in human form. Aliens, Elves, Angels, Ghosts and the like have always fascinated me; perhaps it’s the near-humanness they maintain. These self-portraits are meant to invoke that feeling of otherness—an otherworldliness—yet also a sense of wonder. Learning to be at peace with my circumstances and knowing that they won’t ever fully disappear has allowed me to be appreciative of this planet, those who call it home, and those who are happy for me to be here during my stay.
